Dr. Hurst was raised in Dallas, Texas and completed his undergraduate studies on a full scholarship at Brigham Young University, graduating magna cum laude. He then attended dental school at Baylor College of Dentistry where he was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society.

Following dental school, Dr. Hurst obtained a medical degree from the University of Washington and a certificate in General Surgery. He then completed residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Washington where he received extensive training in wisdom teeth removal, complex dental extractions, bone grafting, dental implant surgery, anesthesia, facial trauma, oral pathology, head and neck cancer, orthognathic surgery, and facial reconstructive surgery. During residency, he published and presented award-winning research and served as chief resident.

Outside of patient care, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his family.
